Healthcare

The Healthcare Atelier is a nurse-led navigation and advocacy practice for families who refuse to be blindsided. We cut through healthcare complexity, advocate where it counts, and through the Atelier Readiness Suite™ — we make sure you have the legal authority, situational awareness and clinical clarity to act before a crisis forces your hand.

“Every patient has a story. Our role is to make sure it’s heard, honored, and advocated for — every step of the way.”
— Julie Valette - Founder, The Healthcare Atelier

— Our Story —

Rooted in compassion

Founded by Julie Valette, RN — nearly 20 years of clinical experience across oncology, emergency care, palliative care, and long-term care settings in both Canada and the United States.

The Healthcare Atelier was built on a single conviction: families navigating aging, illness, and end-of-life deserve more than a system that wasn't designed for them. They deserve a clinical guide, a clear framework, and someone who has already walked these corridors.

Our practice is nurse-led, cross-border, and unapologetically direct. We don't trade in false reassurance ——we trade in clarity, structure, and confident decision-making.

— Why We Exist —

“Families don't struggle because support doesn't exist. They struggle because…

01

Listen First

We begin every engagement by truly listening — to your story, your fears, your goals. Only then do we map a path forward that reflects your values and your parent's wishes.

The Healthcare Atelier bridges the gap between clinical reality, legal authority, and family decision-making — before a crisis forces the conversation.”

Navigate Together

We walk alongside you through every step. From complex medical decisions to system navigation — we translate clinical language, advocate at the bedside, and make sure you understand every fork in the road.

03

Honor Dignity

At the heart of everything we do is a profound respect for the dignity of every person — patient, family member, and caregiver alike. Our care is always compassionate, unhurried, and deeply human.

The Problem & The Reality…

You Can Be Standing at the Bedside —

and Still Not Be Allowed to Decide.

  • Families of aging adults are routinely required to make high-stakes decisions without adequate clinical guidance.

  • Caregiver burnout, delayed care transitions, and fragmented decision-making are the predictable result.

  • Without the right legal authority documents, you may not be permitted to speak to the care team — regardless of your relationship.

  • The healthcare system has a process. It does not pause for unprepared families

“Most Families don’t find out they’re unprepared until it is too late.”
— Julie Valette RN BSN BSc -- Founder

Our Propriety Methodology

The CARE Framework™

A clinical methodology that transforms fragmented healthcare experiences into clear, actionable care pathways — applied across every service engagement.

Every engagement at The Healthcare Atelier is structured through our proprietary four-stage methodology — built from decades of clinical practice and family navigation experience.

Letter C with the word Clarify, describing the importance of establishing factual clinical and functional reality to cut through confusion and determine what is happening medically, cognitively, and functionally.
A display of the letter A with the word Assess below it, and a description about evaluating viable care pathways across home, community, and facility options for families.
Information card about resources for healthcare and community supports, explaining how to identify and access them on both sides of the border.
An educational graphic with a large letter 'E' and the word 'Execute' beneath it, explaining how to convert decisions into structured care plans with clarity and confidence.
“We didn’t know what we didn’t know. Having a nurse who understood both the system and our family dynamics — and could translate between the two — made an impossible situation manageable.”
— Family of Patient, Complex LTC Transition

The Atelier Readiness Suite™

The Authority Gap™

I've watched families stand at the bedside — unable to make decisions for their own parent. Not because they didn't care. Because they didn't have the paperwork. This is the most common, most devastating, and most preventable crisis in elder care.

The Atelier Readiness Suite™ is the structured system that closes the Authority Gap — before a hospital asks who's in charge and nobody has an answer.

“Most families assume: ‘Of course I can make decisions for my parent.’
Reality: you legally cannot — without documentation.”
The Readiness Stack, listing four components: 1. Awareness - recognizing change and time-sensitive preparation, 2. Authority - establishing who can make legal decisions, 3. Alignment - ensuring family consensus before a crisis, 4. Execution - completing, understanding, and storing documents accessible to the right people.

Legal & Healthcare Readiness

The Atelier Readiness Suite™

"In a crisis, love does not give you authority. Paperwork does."

As a nurse, I've watched families stand at the bedside — legally unable to make decisions for their own parent.

Not because they didn't care. Because no one had told them what they needed beforehand.

The Atelier Readiness Suite™ bridges clinical reality with legal authority.

We educate, prepare, and coordinate — we do not draft legal documents. That's what your lawyer is for. Our role is to make sure you arrive at that appointment ready.

The Founder

Julie Valette RN BSN BSc

Nearly two decades of clinical experience across oncology, emergency care, pediatrics, long-term care, and geriatric and palliative care — in both the United States and Canada. I have navigated this system from both sides of the bed.

The Healthcare Atelier was built because I kept watching the same crisis unfold: families who loved their parents deeply, who showed up every single day — undone by a system nobody explained to them. That is a fixable problem.

My clinical background is the differentiator. Not because credentials are impressive — but because they mean I understand what hospitals actually require, what care teams actually need to know, and what families actually need to hear.
